  SAMIA FARAH 'S BIOGRAPHY



Samia Farah is a French Tunisian singer/song-writer, producer and visual artist who grew up
in France.
She studied digital Media and Design at the University of The  Arts in London

Her work navigates between the real and the surreal exploring themes like identity ,masks,Abstract dolls for an abstract Woman ,the aggressive toxic mother ,hijack dolls  , the Ka or the double ,wounds and Paraphernalia etc..
Her work attempts to reveal the collision between worlds, cultures, countries, faces, women hoods, habits, lies and truths.

Her works aims to raise questions about identity,masks as they reveal hidden forces ,assymetrical portraits of non westerner faces ,dolls for 'Abstract dolls for abstract women' a serie of dolls that she created and sew entirely  and "la mere dĂ©vorante" contruction of motherhood and disfunctionning parenting series of collages with shinning flat pearls.

She uses herself as a subject adding masks or costumes that she creates
using mixed media. 
Raising questions about what is seen, is it what we do get? and vice versa..

Her digital collages mixed with ''play mind '' illustrations add a surrealistic taste to her art. She uses mainly posca and acrylics ,Oil pastels, ink,fabric,paper etc..

SAMIA FARAH started as an artist by recording music at the age of 18 , experimenting different style  of sounds,  her goal was the written message.
-She released her debut album for Sony France where she sings , plays and write songs in French ,plays Melodica , co-composed and Produced the album with Giovanny Delahunda her friend and colleague.

At this stage of her career, she was very fond of jazz ,bossa , Reggea Dub, experimental music and wanted to work with jazz musicians , AndreCeccarelli and Laurent de Wilde are featured on this first highly acclaimed record.

The "french " were not really at the 'rendez vous 'as we know French always had an issue with artists who are and do things outside the box and she faced racisism ,the glass ceiling . The world, mainly in the US has celebrated the iconic Album .
 
Adrian Sherwood, the legendary UK engineer and producer  mixed some tracks for this first album...she went to see him in a concert and asked him to work with her.

Samia’s second album "The Many Moods Of..."  was released in 2009, which she coproduced musically as she is also the owner of the Album rights too.
She sang ,produced and designed the art cover for this album.
The work with Sony's staff was a desaster and were generally totally ignorant of the music it self, Samia farah's concepts,ideas  and work .

She wrote 'yellow tongue ' lyrics that she sangs with the legendary producer LEE SCRATCH PERRY she is also worked with Dennis Bovel for an EP and collaborateurs with many artists.
During her world travels, she has produced
a short documentary, “Typical Girls,” about equality and perception of women in the
Music industry including the last interview of The Slits singer Ari before she died of a breast cancer  .
her doc also includes The legendary reggae producer Dennis Bovel ,the poet Jean Binta Breeze etc...
She also produced interviewed and filmed a short documentary about Mutabaruka, the Jamaican dub poet.
She was Invited in Palestine , Mexico ,japan,indiaetc.. in a context of artists in residencies pgm .
After travellingthe world she created and made dolls, "ABSTRACT DOLLS FOR ABSTRACT WOMEN"
 Mosaics with a Tunisian flavor, assymetrical portraits from around the world.
She is now writing a little booklet of poetry ,songs and a Play,she lived in the UK and in Bangkok  for many years...
